With enormous pride, gratitude and a deep sense of occasion, MOVE is proud to officially announce the opening of the new Classic Bus Pavilion.
On Saturday evening, more than 340 guests from across Australia gathered in Shepparton to celebrate this remarkable milestone, the culmination of more than 60 years of passion, persistence and vision.
The pavilion represents a landmark achievement for the Bus & Coach Society of Victoria, whose members and supporters contributed more than $1 million towards bringing the project to life. Built overwhelmingly through community fundraising, volunteer support and the generosity of passionate individuals, the development stands as a powerful example of what can be achieved when communities unite behind a shared purpose.
The new pavilion not only preserves an important part of Australia’s transport history, but also creates a space where future generations can experience and connect with the stories, vehicles and people that helped shape the nation’s road transport journey.
MOVE extends its sincere thanks to all supporters, sponsors, volunteers, partners and contributors who played a role in delivering this extraordinary project. Their belief, commitment and generosity have helped create something truly special for the region and for transport heritage across Australia.

The Museum of Vehicle Evolution tells the story of how people, machines and a region moved forward together — a world-class collection born from community passion in the heart of the Goulburn Valley.
Our story
It began with a dream
Known as a "car city," Shepparton has long been home to remarkable examples of motoring history — on its roads, and tucked away in farm sheds and orchards across the region.
In the 1990s, an article in the Shepparton News about local enthusiast Jim Andreadis and his dream of a 150-car museum sparked widespread interest. It brought together like-minded people — among them the late Dick Clayton, whose radios, telephones and memorabilia added depth to the project; Ian Barker, who stored historic vehicles across the region; and Lloyd Mawson, owner of Emerald Bank, who saw the site as a tourism hub. Together, they laid the foundation for what would become MOVE.
Our beginnings
The Shepparton Motor Museum
Backed by local philanthropists, council and state funding — and buildings generously donated by the Andreadis family — the Shepparton Motor Museum and Collectibles opened its doors in 2011, initially housing 50 to 60 cars alongside the Clayton Collection.
It quickly became a regional icon. Local connections helped secure treasures still celebrated today: the Furphy family's collection, Garth Wallace's Harley-Davidsons, Paul and Charlie Farren's pre-1900 bicycles, and the nationally renowned Loel Thomson Costume Collection — establishing the museum as a must-visit across the Goulburn Valley.
Where we are today
The creation of MOVE
Seeing what the museum could become, a group of local trucking families set out to celebrate Shepparton's role as a transport hub and the pioneers who shaped it. Their vision aligned with the museum's mission, and — together with transport companies and community support — led to the Kenworth Dealer Truck Pavilion and a world-class museum that truly reflects the spirit of the region.
Today, MOVE continues to grow. The Classic Bus Pavilion is now open, and plans are well underway to enclose the current outdoor area, creating even more display and event space in the years ahead.

Almost every vehicle is here on temporary loan. We're lucky to have an amazing and generous network of collectors and enthusiasts who share their machines with us, which is exactly why the collection is always evolving.

When Shepparton motorcycle wrecker Garth "Bulldog" Wallace passed away in 2019, his family wanted his prized collection displayed so others could appreciate his legacy.
Collected over a lifetime, Bulldog left behind many examples of the cult American brand plus other classic motorcycles. Today an estimated 65 bikes — an anthology of Harley-Davidson, from Fat Boys to Shovelheads — are on display at MOVE, alongside regular gatherings of bike groups keen to experience the thrill of history.
Craftsman & restorer
Built, salvaged and brought back to life
Garth hand-crafted the mechanics, working alongside a series of art projects involving the creative welding of salvaged parts — tributes to his talent for craftsmanship. MOVE holds a huge back catalogue of parts he salvaged over his years in Shepparton's motorcycle industry.
His career began at the end of the "golden age of motorcycles" in the 1960s. An enthusiastic restorer, he returned many rusted-out bikes to their former glory and sold spare parts far and wide — from the Northern Territory to Phillip Island. One of his first customers, back in 1965, was from San Francisco, restoring a classic Harley.

Today, one in four commercial vehicles in Victoria is registered in the Goulburn Valley. The Kenworth Dealer Pavilion at MOVE houses around fifty trucks, buses and other commercial vehicles of varying ages — a rolling history of the machines that keep the region moving.

From the stagecoach to early primitive motorised buses, the streamlined coaches of the mid-20th century, right through to today's high-tech marvels.
Buses and coaches are always there — sometimes barely noticed — yet they truly capture the era they operated in. The style, the sound, often the imposing size. For many, they evoke a simpler time and bring back fond memories.

Our changing collection highlights notable, milestone buses and coaches — meticulously restored and preserved by individuals and companies with a passion for saving our transport heritage. Australia was fortunate to manufacture buses locally as well as import the best from overseas.
You'll find trend-setting coaches from prominent national operators alongside the regular "work horse" buses used by local operators with little fanfare. Take your time, look around, and perhaps remember your own days riding the bus.

The late Paul Farren and his wife Charlie dedicated forty years to amassing one of the finest collections of vintage bikes in the world.
The collection spans more than 200 bicycles dating from as early as the 1860s — including tricycles, penny farthings and even hobby horses. It's arguably one of the most important collections of its type anywhere on earth, and MOVE is proud to host a large part of it. Charlie works closely with MOVE to ensure the best possible visitor experience and shares her extensive knowledge along the way.

With pieces you've never heard of alongside the familiar — old and new and everything in between — there's something to interest everyone. It's an intimate, beautifully preserved window into how Australians dressed, worked and celebrated across two centuries.

A dedicated area within MOVE showcasing the history of the iconic family businesses Furphy & Sons and Furphy Foundry, and their evolution through to the modern era.
From the famous water carts and camp ovens, through two world wars, to the modern engineering and manufacturing businesses that still operate in Shepparton and beyond today — it's a story full of characters, hard work, ingenuity and maybe even a tall tale or two. (The word "furphy" itself comes from these very water carts.)

Dick Clayton was a passionate collector, historian and influential figure in the radio, television and telecommunications industries across the Goulburn Valley.
A long-time historian at the Shepparton RSL and founder of the region's Darwin Defenders branch, Dick played a pivotal role in establishing the Rookies Garden at the Shepparton Showgrounds — commemorating the thousands of Army and Air Force personnel who completed their basic training there during World War II.
Where it all began
The collection that sparked a museum
Dick's vision for preserving and sharing his extensive collection of gramophones, telephones and radios became a driving force behind the creation of MOVE's predecessor, The Shepparton Motor Museum and Collectables.
In a lasting tribute, his family has generously donated his collection to MOVE and continues to support the museum — helping educate staff, volunteers and visitors about Dick's lifelong passion. Through his contributions and his family's ongoing involvement, his legacy lives on.
